Washable/Reusable Cone Air Filter converion for '97-99 Impreza.

These are in stock for Impreza now. This clever modification allows using the factory intake tubing, while replacing the restrictive stock airfilter box with a high flow washable/re-usable cone air filter.

This preserves low end power by retaining the air resevour at the rear of the engine, while improving performance. This intake does not require an Air/Fuel computer like other intakes that remove the air resevour from behind the engine. You will need to buy a K&N filter charger kit with this product. Comes with filter,MAF adapter and bracket.

GanzFlow cone filter air intake for Model Year '97-98 Phase I motor (2.2 or 2.5), complete CONE/MAF kit from air plenum to filter, for $129.95 + $16.95 S&H. Some 1999 Legacy have the Phase I motor and use this intake.

This is basically an upgrade to the cone filter conversion seen above. The features that distinguish this intake over the others is that (1) The intake retains the stock torque chamber at the back of the motor for good low end throttle response, and (2) with intakes going directly to the throtle body, the MAF can be confused by the intake pulse harmonics into reading up to 26% lean, and this kills power and potentially harms the motor over time (see March 2000 Issue of Sport Compact Car Magazine). The other intakes require a $400 super air flow convertor like the APEXi or Field AFC to correct the MAF signal output and this one doesn't. To tell if you have a phase I motor, verify that your airbox at the back of the motor does NOT include metal clips to let you open it, and that there is a 1" thick idle control vacuum line that goes from just behind the MAF in the intake towards the throttle body.

Be sure you have a Phase II motor before ordering - the 99 Impreza should be a Phase II but most Legacy models used a Phase I in 1999. You can tell if you have a phase II motor because the air plenum behind the motor has three metal clips that will allow you to open it and insert an extra air filter, and all three vacuum lines from valve covers and crank case will go to the air plenum, with NO vacuum lines to the intake tubing.

Create your own cold air intake with this 3" MAF adapter and our optional PRM Racing inline air filter or our cone filtter.. Additonal parts will be required, such as a bracket to secure the MAF, tubing to run from the throttle body or air plenum to the MAF, and from the filter to the inner fender. We are working on a kit to do this, but do not have a release date yet. This items is intended for your personal own use and is intended for offroad use only.
