AMSOIL filters ship seperately, but K&N filters ship with the intake. to choose options such as color of silicone tubing (yellow, blue, red or black). Cost is $129.95+ 26.95S&H if you use your current air filter, $179.95 with K&N filter, including S&H. NOTE: the V5 intakes do NOT use the silicone piece at the end at the inner fender hole now, as they were improved to fit tighter and not vibrate in the hole and don't need the extra insulation to fix a loose fit.
We upgraded our materials from hand polished 2.5 inch intakes with minor blemishes to 3 inch "display" quality mirror-finish polished aluminum. Although we do keep a reasonable amount of inventory on hand; should we not have one on hand, we can have the parts for this one piece or a two piece intake shipped here to us within 2-5 business days. As stated above, we also have a two piece 3" version for MY00 and up Legacy and Forester models which does fit the Impreza as well, if you prefer that style. See links on product page to those.
One of the advantages of this particular intake vs other intakes is that ours retains the stock airbox at the throttle body, which acts as an air-plenum or resevour of air for the engine. This serves two purposes - one is to absorb and eliminate intake pulse harmonics and improve the smoothness of the powerband and the other is as a ready supply of moving air to retain low end power when intake air velocity is lower.
The other big advantage of this intake vs others is that we supply cold air to the engine, not feeding the engine hot air from the engine bay. Why is this important? Simple, cold-air is more dense and contains more oxygen than hot air, so the engine can make more power when additional fuel is supplied automatically by the fuel injection system. It is said that every 40-60 degree drop in temperature will result in an additional 5-6% increase in power! That's as much as 10hp right there. There may also be gains from mild pressurizing the inner fender at higher speeds, and from the less restrictive intake tubing for more top end power.
